Senate committee to weigh Olivia Trusty’s nomination to FCC

The U.S. Senate Commerce Committee will hold a hearing next Wednesday to evaluate President Donald Trump’s nomination of legislative staffer Olivia Trusty to fill a spot at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
Trusty was nominated by Trump in January following the departure of former FCC Chairperson Jessica Rosenworcel, who was succeeded in that role by then-Commissioner Brendan Carr. Trusty effectively fills the spot on the FCC board left vacant by Carr when he succeeded Rosenworcel as Chairman.
Trusty is expected to face little friction at the Senate Commerce Committee hearing, given the Republican’s majority in Congress. Accordingly, once confirmed, the FCC will have three Republican commissioners and one to two Democratic commissioners. FCC Commissioner Geoffrey Starks, a Democrat, has announced his intention to leave the agency in the near future.
