
‘G20’ review roundup: Viola Davis is ‘magnetic’ and ‘butt-kicking’ but she can’t save ‘preposterous’ action film

Headlines about politics are probably best avoided these days, and judging by the reviews for Prime Video's new action film G20, critics feel the same about this political-themed thriller — save for its star, Viola Davis.
While reviews are decidedly mixed (it's at 43% on Rotten Tomatoes and 49 on Metacritic), Davis, who plays President Danielle Sutton, the military-hero-turned-commander-in-chief who must defend against a rogue band of terrorists (led by The Boys star Antony Starr), earned near universal praise from reviewers for rising above the lackluster material.
