“That was kind of the point”: ‘The Office’ Deliberately Made Rashida Jones Unfunny and I’m Now Realizing Why It Worked

Rashida Jones played Karen Filippelli in The Office, where she was a regular for one season before being let go. The actress is best known for her role in another Michael Schur show, Parks and Recreation, where she has amazing chemistry with Amy Poehler and the rest of the cast, and is hilarious.

Karen is not one of the funniest characters in The Office. In fact, she is a lot more grounded and deadpan, which is probably why she was sort of great with John Krasinski’s Jim. The Stamford branch of Dunder Mifflin had characters like Ed Helms’ Andy Bernard, who were hilarious, but Karen never really stood out like that. Now, I know why.
