28 Days Later writer Alex Garland explains why he sat out sequel before making series return
’28 Days Later’ writer Alex Garland left the franchise because he "couldn’t be in a cynical mindset" to make the sequel ’28 Weeks Later’.The 54-year-old scribe had worked with director Danny Boyle on the 2002 horror flick before both exited the series, allowing Juan Carlos Fresnadillo to step in and helm the 2007 follow-up.Now, Garland and Boyle have returned to the franchise with the upcoming ’28 Years Later’, and the writer has explained there were "various reasons" why both he and the 68-year-old filmmaker couldn’t have made a direct sequel to their 2002 flick.The ‘Warfare’ director told The Playlist: "It was this. ’28 Days Later’ was a very uncynical film.
