‘The Last of Us’: Who Is Gail’s Husband Eugene & Why Did Joel Kill Him?

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Last of Us Season 2, Episodes 1-2.] The Last of Us Season 2 continues to build up suspense as Episode 2 further unravels the mystery introduced by the character Gail (Catherine O’Hara), Jackson’s resident therapist. The role that was created for the series brings fresh life into the storylines introduced in the game The Last of Us Part II upon which the show is based, but as she tried helping Joel (Pedro Pascal) cope with Ellie’s (Bella Ramsey) coldness toward him, she was combating her own anger against the man fans have came to know and love. As Gail revealed in the Season 2 premiere, Joel shot and killed her husband, Eugene (who is played in the show by Joe Pantoliano).
