Wicked, the adaptation of the Broadway hit musical of the same name, had been in the works for almost a decade before it premiered to critical and commercial success in November 2024. Considering the adaptation further developed the characters, the story has been split into two films, with Wicked: For Good set to finish the story this November.

The adaptation stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, and the first part ended strong at the same time as Act 1, with "Defying Gravity." The musical moment came with a lot of pressure, considering its popularity from the musical's fans, but Erivo exceeded expectations with her take on the beloved song, alongside Grande. In a new interview with People, Wicked star Bowen Yang promised the sequel will rival "Defying Gravity" with its version of "For Good."
