The religious conclave of Cardinals to elect the new pope shown in last year’s Conclave, is one of the best speculative historical fictions. Though the steps for the election have been common knowledge, it is still one of the most secretive processes in the world. What happens inside those doors has been everyone’s curiosity, as the Cardinals are sworn to secrecy.

However, a religious scholar believes that the Ralph Fiennes movie is more accurate than one would imagine. The film shows a lot of drama between Cardinals, who campaign for different candidates, only for a completely new candidate, Cardinal Benitez, to be appointed Pope. It is also revealed that Benitez is intersex, which he only got to know much later in life.
