‘The Conners’ series finale: EPs talk the ‘Roseanne’ storyline that inspired the ending, and the perfect moment that John Goodman improvised
If memories of the Conner family’s shenanigans after winning the lottery or undoing an entire season’s worth of storylines in the series finale of Roseanne linger in the memories of that classic sitcom’s fandom, the executive producers of Roseanne spin-off The Conners have felt your pain. And that’s why they made it their mission to end the latest, and — for now at least — last comedy in the Conner universe (Conner-verse?), on a more realistic, and hopeful note.
With the warning of many spoilers ahead, The Conners EPs Bruce Helford, Dave Caplan, and Bruce Rasmussen broke down for Gold Derby the way they sent the Conner family — notably Dan (John Goodman), Darlene (Sara Gilbert), Becky (Lecy Goranson), and Jackie (Laurie Metcalfe) — off into TV land history, after 37 years of the working-class classic comedy’s off-and-on run on the tube.
