Christopher Meloni has admitted he had doubts about Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson's near-kiss on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The pair nearly consummated their on-off romantic chemistry in a Svu season 24 episode.
The 2023 story arc saw Stabler come to Benson's rescue when she was targeted by the dangerous BX9 gang. Once Stabler made sure Benson was safe, he leaned in to try to kiss her. However, Benson turned her head away and admitted to him: "Elliot, I want to, but I can't. What if it doesn't work out?" Stabler encouraged Benson to consider that things between them could work out, but she told him: "Elliot, I'm not ready for this."
