When it comes to emotional character deaths within the anime industry, very few of them have been able to match the essence of legendary Sannin Jiraiya’s death in Naruto. It was one of the most devastating deaths in the history of anime, and even Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece has failed to reach such a level of tragic death.

Oda has been against the idea of killing characters in One Piece since the beginning, and he has been quite vocal about it. Still, the mangaka has had to write off some characters from the series for the sake of the story, and their deaths have been damaging, but they did not have an impact like Jiraiya’s death.
