“He’s never going to be cured”: Joss Whedon’s 1 Decision in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Gave a Massive Headache to Studio That Led to a Spinoff

Joss Whedon’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer did one shocking thing that no other TV show dared to do at the time. David Boreanaz’s Angel in the Buffy universe was a vampire who was cursed with remorse and a human soul. Before his curse, Angel went by the name Angelus and was the most sadistic vampire in Europe.
Angel’s origin story was revealed only in the seventh episode of the first season. While his backstory was a bit unsettling, they were happy at the time that he had put his evil self behind him. However, they would’ve never guessed that they would see the evil turn of the character, that too with the most brutal death of another character.
Interestingly, it wasn’t just the fans who were shocked by this turn of events. Even the studio found it hard to accept Angel’s evil turn in Buffy.
