Penn Badgley Reveals Alternate Ending Considered for You Series Finale

Youstar Penn Badgley explains why the series couldn't kill off his iconic villain.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Badgley discussed his personal journey portraying stalker-turned-serial killer Joe Goldberg, as well as why the series couldn't kill off his character in the end. Badgley explained that if his character were killed by someone "he'd been trying to seduce, manipulate, or kill," that character would have been saddled "with trauma that feels unjust. So I think we found the one just ending."
Badgley did note the one alternative ending that he believed would have been fitting, which came from writer and showrunner Greg Berlanti. "It was to let [Joe] get away with it - to let him have everything he thought he wanted, and just be absolutely miserable," Badgley explained.
