Original Atla Cast Was Replaced in New Avatar Movie to Match Everyone’s “Ethnic/racial background”

It goes without saying that Avatar: The Last Airbender had a great cast that delivered a stellar performance during the original run of the show. However, the cast, as good as it was, will not be returning for the franchise’s animated theatrical debut, as a fresh cast was announced for The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender.

Jenny Jue, the casting director of the film, revealed why the actors were switched up for the film, and the reason is not shocking at all. While it would have made perfect sense for the cast to return as adult versions of characters that they have played, the film wanted actors who were more analogous to the ethnic backgrounds of the characters in the Avatar verse.
