Nicolas Cage's latest film, The Surfer, landed in theaters on May 2, and the film is already being hailed as one of the best the Academy Award winner has made in recent years. However, the movie, shot in Australia, may have brought back some memories for the actor, who recently revealed that he had been acquainted with the wrath of the sea in the past, and "almost died" while previously attempting to surf in real life.

The thriller by Vivarium's Lorcan Finnegan sees Cage play a man who returns to his hometown in Australia and attempts to surf at a nearby beach with his son. Things go haywire when the locals don't like his presence, and they show Cage's character that they will do whatever they can to keep him out. The film co-stars Julian McMahon, Nic Cassim, Alexander Bertrand, Finn Little, and Justin Rosniak, among others.
