Danny McBride Says His HBO Vampire Series Is "Not What They're Looking for Right Now"

Last year, it was reported that The Righteous Gemstones creator Danny McBride had lined up his next series for HBO by way of the Grady Hendrix horror novel The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires. There's been little news on its development since then, and sadly, the project might not happen at all, according to McBride, who says that it's "sort of floating out there right now."

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about his life and career, the subject of the HBO vampire series came up, which is described as "Steel Magnolias meets Dracula." McBride was set to adapt Hendrix's best-selling novel with his Righteous Gemstones partner, Edi Patterson, after the project had previously been in development at Amazon and switched homes after a series of delays.
