Jim Phelps & Jasper Briggs’ Connection In Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning
Image
Fans of the Mission: Impossible series were already aware that Ethan Hunt’s send-off will bring back past connections, characters, or events—among which I expected characters like William Brandt or Solomon Lane to pop up. Even though that didn’t happen, a most unexpected past tie-up was explored in The Final Reckoning, completing a full circle moment for the legendary spy’s character arc. Jasper Briggs, a member of the Community, a coalition of all the intelligence divisions of the United States government, is revealed to be the son of Jim Phelps, the Imf director who betrayed his team, who used to be a mentor figure to Ethan. Given how things ended between the two, it is safe to say Briggs held a grudge against Ethan for a long time. Despite Briggs having limuted screentime, his arc is neatly connected with Hunt’s final mission and concludes with both characters finding closure.
