Wind Breaker: Tsubaki’s Character Is an Open Challenge to the Most Confusing Shonen Norms

Wind Breaker is all the buzz, and we’re here for it. The top-tier manga is often compared to Tokyo Revengers, and quite honestly, fans aren’t lying one bit. It peaks in many aspects: storytelling, fights, and most specifically, characters.

It isn’t a cliche delinquent story focused on showdowns and epic duels. Yes, that’s very much there; however, Satoru Nii subverts our expectations through one particular character.

Through Tsubakino, the mangaka challenged a confusing trope in the Shonen genre. It highlights the need for proper representation. Also, it breaks the mould with characterization, and here’s how.

Other than fights and edgy delinquents, Satoru Nii delivered wholesome elements in his series. That is, through well-written characters who feel more familiar and relatable. One such character is Tasuku Tsubakino (Tsubaki).
