“It’s a little bit scary”: Jesse Armstrong Had a Reason to Be Scared for ‘Mountainhead’ After Near Flawless ‘Succession’

A lot of great shows have come out of TV over the years, especially from HBO, but Succession has easily earned its place among the top five, no question. With razor-sharp writing, unforgettable performances, and a wickedly dark sense of humor, it became a cultural phenomenon, redefining what a prestige drama could be. And at the center of it all was Jesse Armstrong, the brilliant mind behind the chaos of the Roy family.

So, how do you follow up a masterpiece like that? That’s the challenge Armstrong now faces with his next project, Mountainhead. Even for a writer as seasoned and sharp as he is, stepping out from the shadow of Succession is no small task. As confident as he may be, he admitted, it’s a little bit scary.
