I'm not familiar with this story but as a fan of Poirot and Agatha Christie's style of whodunnit I was looking forward to this adaptation with a good cast and great production values. But the end result is a disastrous slog with zero tension and a general pace that forces actors to talk insanely slow to the point where I thought it was played at wrong speed. The first episode could have lasted half with a proper edit. But more than the bad pace it's the lack of thrills, the absence of mystery that truly disappoints.
And also a weird detail but the female character's make up is clown-like with over the top red lips. Yes it's the 30s but there is a lack of subtlety that makes the actresses look pretty awful.
Once again the BBC is wasting talent. At least they got the title right!
