While Jack Black's overbearing performance in Minecraft: The Movie grows tiresome, Jennifer Coolidge's signature "Sophie from 2 Broke Girls"-style antics remain endlessly delightful. Every time her character emerges in the gaps of the tightly-paced main storyline, I couldn't help thinking, "This woman must have cradled me as a baby" - her comedic timing radiates inexplicable warmth. Jason Momoa, whose manic energy perfectly suited Fast & Furious 10, here descends into excessive buffoonery; the screen time would've been better allocated to the film's true stars - those adorably cubic Blocky Creatures.
Though the pacing and narrative logic aren't flawless, this qualifies as a competent holiday family film. Initially skeptical about the Mandarin-dubbed version (selected for my young companions), I was pleasantly surprised by its refined localization - contemporary Chinese dubbing has evolved far beyond the awkward deliveries of yesteryear's imported films.
