The Pink Panther to me is one of animation's most iconic characters. DePatie-Freleng Enterprises' output was very hit and miss, or at least post-1970 it was, especially the later theatrical series. With hits such as Pink Panther and the Ant and the Aardvark, and duds such as Crazylegs Crane. For me, The Pink Panther on the whole was the studio's best theatrical series, though The Inspector and Ant and the Aardvark ones come close. It did become very variable from the mid-70s onwards, but the 60s-early 70s output contained some of the studio's best work.
'We Give Pink Stamps' is a great Pink Panther cartoons. It is not one of my favourites of the series and is not as good as something like 'The Pink Phink'. It is though superior to the still thoroughly enjoyable previous cartoon 'Pink Pajamas' and is great quality and so much fun in its own way. One aspect of 'We Give Pink Stamps' is a bit of a head scratcher, but actually really there is nothing that is inherently wrong and my one issue is pretty nit-picky (or at least can be seen as such).
My one issue with 'We Give Pink Stamps' is the title, even as a kid this reviewer found it perplexing and still don't get the significance of it.
However, the animation is simple but also stylish and the colours are pretty. The main theme to The Pink Panther is one of the most timeless themes for any animated show or character, and the music for 'We Give Pink Stamps' is every bit as catchy. The story like the animation is simple but not simplistic, what matters more is that there is never a dull moment and sustains the running time nicely.
Sight gags are imaginative and funny, the back and forth between Pink and the janitor is full of energy and never felt tired or repetitive and the part with the janitor and the silencing of the live chair is laugh out loud funny. Pink is cool, sweet and funny (but never mean-spirited) in his craftiness, and the janitor takes the butt of Pinky's jokes memorably.
In conclusion, the title is curious but 'We Give Pink Stamps' makes for great entertainment. 9/10.
