Pablo Neruda was the pseudonym of Chilean poet Ricardo Neftali Reyes Basualto. He was born in Parral, a little town in central Chile, but his family moved to Temuco City when he was just a few months old. It was there he showed interest in poetry and made his early works, and where he picked "Pablo Neruda" as a pseudonym because his father did not approve of his writing.
Neruda He is considered one of the greatest Spanish-language poets of the 20th century. He is called "The Poet of Love" because his poetry is sensual and sometimes very erotic. He was the honorary Chilean consul in Burma, Ceylon, Java, Singapore, Buenos Aires, Barcelona and Madrid. In 1943 he returned to Chile but left in 1949 because Chilean President Gabriel Gonzalez Videla was after him for political reasons. From 1949-52 he lived in exile in different European countries. He was also known as an outspoken Communist. he died in Santiago, Chile, a few days after the military coup in which his friend Salvador Allende, the first socialist to have been democratically elected in Latin America, was toppled and later murdered.- Allende became the Socialist President of Chile--elected by popular vote--in 1970 who was replaced by the now notorious Augusto Pinochet. It has been reported that Allende committed suicide. But it has not been determined whether his death was the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound or by fire caused by invading troops in the military coup designed to oust him from office. In retrospect, many believe that his eventual downfall was the result of conflicts between the Chilean political Left and Right. Chile's Left drew its support from the urban poor and working class. The Right was supported by a cohesive upper class that was able to galvanize its resources from agrarian and industrial interests. Additionally, the Right was able to persuade the middle class to join its ranks. The threat of Allende's Socialist policies inevitably left his administration vulnerable to the assault of a much larger and better financed political Right. Moreover, his administration had to endure the hostility of the United States during the Cold War era that saw his rise to power as a "Socialist" threat to American Democracy and capitalism. Many records confirm that the United States subsidized anti-Allende strikes and vowed its support of the military which was virulently against his administration. Unfortunately, Chile inherited Pinochet as a military dictator in 1973; at present Pinochet has been charged with war crimes for atrocities committed against opponents of his totalitarian regime. Allende's brief three years as President of Chile, beginning in 1970, are seen by his supporters and admirers as one man's efforts to neutralize the tyranny and economic hegemony of the upper classes and elites. His detractors view him as a man who threatened the Chilean economy with Socialist economic policy. His administration and his death will inevitably continue to be discussed and debated for years to come. It should be noted that many members of Allende's family were necessarily forced to leave Chile, but have nevertheless done quite well for themselves; the most notable and visible of his survivors is critically and popularly acclaimed author Isabel Allende, his niece.

In 1963, she was summoned to play Laura Larraín in La pérgola de las flores by Isidora Aguirre, replacing Silvia Piñeiro, which quickly became a pop culture sensation. - The talented and charming actress Carolina Fadic Maturana was born on February 27, 1974 in Santiago, Chile. At 19, while she was still a student at Academia de Teatro de Fernando Gonzalez (Fernando Gonzalez's Academy of Drama) she broke into a major TV success "Rompecorazón" (Heartbreaker, 1994), playing the main role of the series. The viewers were deeply captivated with her stunning beauty and her fresh, wicked style, mixing most of the main elements that had made other young actresses turn into icons for a whole generation. Later she starred in more TV hits: Estúpido Cupido (1995) (Stupid Cupid, 1995), "Oro Verde" (Green Gold, 1997) and Iorana (1998), but her debut on the big screen came by playing a ghost in the movie about a well-known urban legend from Santiago: La rubia de Kennedy (1995) (The Blonde From Kennedy), despite the poor reviews the film received, she established herself as one of the most promising Chilean actresses.
In the making of some ads campaign in Uruguay, Carolina met the one who would become her husband, Gabriel del Carril (a director) and father of their only son, Pedro (born in 1996). After these big changes on her life, she took temporary leave from mainstream TV series and entered into more alternative dramatic arts on stage. Her "independent" way allowed her to demonstrate her talent and she soon gained a reputation as mature actress (the most important among them being "Los Jerarcas" (2001).
At the new millennium, Carolina mixed multiple roles in many diverse topics, she got the main role in the film Antonia (2001), went back into TV series (in main and supporting roles), and acted on stage. Her appearances on the excellent, but short-lived TV release "Plaza Italia" opened the door to her first own show "Primer Plano" (Close-up), an entertaining glance at show-business and celebrity gossip, where the hyperkinetic hostess simply stole the show with her funny, irreverent style. The night of Wednesday October 9, 2002, and shortly after broadcasting a note about a fashion event, she suffered a brain attack caused by some kind of aneurysm, and after just 2 days in a coma, Carolina died at age 28. Many people cried at the unbearable loss of one who may be, by far, the most beautiful and lovely actress whom Chileans ever met and will never forget. - Actor
