A villager's dead body is found on the banks of Rába. During the official proceedings - although there is a suspect - an accident is established, and the case is closed. Howewer the victims grandfather doesn't want to acquiescing in judgment and cite the matter to the Minister. Two years later a new investigation starts lead by Csipke, and astonishing things are coming to the light.

A janitor reports a suspicious resident to the police, as he knows he has scrubbed blood from the floor in his apartment, and left it three times with a large suitcase in a short period of time, then disappeared. When a female torso is found in the Danube, the hunt begins all over Budapest. Once the investigators catch him, he is genuinely surprised at what he is suspected of.

A lonely, elderly woman was severely assaulted in her villa in Buda. Only the maid was with her that evening, and she was obviously lying. Nevertheless she is not the main suspect, but the previous maid. Meanwhile the old lady dies from her injuries, so now the case is murder. Captain Gál finds the previous maid and tries to track down her violent fiancé, who may be involved in the crime.

Another dead body is found near Budapest in the late 40s, the fourth in a row. They have many similarities, they are half-naked, their faces are unrecognizable, they have been bitten by some animal and they are all dressed for hiking. Csipke assumes that they may be wetbacks. Eventually an aggressive dog leads them on the trail of a criminal gang, who kill their victims instead of help them flee to the West.

A young woman's uncle and her best friend's older husband get robbed and killed within a few hours, and the police, of course see them as the prime suspects, because they can both count on a huge legacy. The investigators discover that the culprit is the same, and the young woman reports her encounter with a stranger she met on her last trip abroad.

In 1949 a young girl get murdered and the alleged culprit flees to the West later that evening. The police doesn't have the power to pursue the killer, so they must freeze the case. 11 years later one man is seriously wounded, another is killed, they both have worked in the West recently. Clues suggest that the perpetrator might be the same one who killed more than a decade ago.

The young wife of an older, wealthy man has disappeared while he was away. Except for jewelry and some cash, she didn't take anything with her, not even a piece of clothing. The husband is sure that she has a younger lover, whom the investigators find very soon, but he also knows nothing about here whereabouts. The police do not even think that this is a criminal case until traces of blood are found in different places in the apartment.

After his secret rendezvous with his girlfriend the young engineer gets home, just to find his wife and they two sons murdered. Meanwhile his girlfriend has been shot on the way home, and one of his ex-girlfriend found dead in a nearby forest, hanged on a tree. The suspicious case goes to Major Mátyus, who uncovers this triple crime, which has its roots in the past.
