In 2010 Mario Urbina discovered a whale fossil in Peru which he named Perucetus. It may be heavier than the blue whale, long thought to be the largest animal to ever live. But the bones of Perucetus are bigger and denser.

As Pangea broke up the Indian tectonic plate became an Island that was rapidly pulled by subduction toward south Asia. Along the way it passed over the Reunion hotspot triggering millennia long eruptions of the Deccan Traps just a few hundred thousand year before the Chicxulub impact. This journey had a major impact on the diversity of modern flora and fauna.
