- A ski jumper descends from winning 4 Olympic Gold Medals, to serving two years for stabbing a relative. Careers as a stripper and singer, plus five marriages, replete with allegations of domestic violence are fictionalized sympathetically in this dramedy. Alleged exploitation/manipulation of Matti, due to his naivety and gullibility, along with deterioration of his skiing ability due to heavy drinking and bad decisions is emphasized. Many Matti malapropisms a la Yogi Berra, attributed to the Finnish skiing legend, are employed as biopic comic dialogue.
- Juuso, Late, and Pyry return from military service to their small village in the Finnish countryside. Finding work is difficult there, so Juuso decides to take a job on a Norwegian oil-drilling platform. Late could start working on his family's chicken farm, but he wants to break free from his father, who has a new wife. Looking for work in Gothenburg, Sweden, he only runs into more problems and is deported back to Finland. Pyry would like to take over his late father's farm, but family quarrels over the estate make him quit his agricultural studies, and he and drifter Late take jobs in a steel mill in southern Finland.
- Mika's (Ilkka Koivula) mother marries a man who is getting out of the jail. At the beginning everything seems to be all right. Mika leaves Oulu, an industrial city up in Northern Finland, to study in the capital, Helsinki. He does very well with his studies and also begins a relationship with the girl he knew already back in Oulu. Meanwhile the new husband reveals his true self - and all of a sudden things get very serious.
- Lifelong work falls apart when Elias meets his fate by ending up in a life sentence. His career, that had become the only meaningful thing in his life, led him to commit his last mistake. Charged with murder, Elias finds himself on a prison island as a fisherman whose only duty is to catch daily fish. He feels like he's losing his life purpose until short daily meetings with a female prisoner become bright spots in his tough daily routines. When Elias and his new love are separated from each other, he has found something to aim for. Stakes are dangerously high when Elias makes the plan that could lead to freedom for both of them.
- Irmeli Majuri (Birgit Kronström), a fun fashion designer in Hanko, is urgently needed for her workplace. Gymnastics teacher Ritva Majuri (Irma Seikkula) goes to pick up her sister, but by chance she ends up as a maid at the villa of manager Kustaa Aadolf Marka (Uuno Laakso), where Irmelik soon finds herself. Manager Markka and his nephew, engineer Reima Mela (Kullervo Kalske) fall in love with the witty siblings.
- It is the year 1915, and five Finnish men ski to Sweden via the Gulf of Bothnia to get military training in Germany. Among the men are Martti and Kalpa from the 27th Army Ranger Battalion. In the reserve, the troops spend their free time in a café called the Golden Anchor, owned by Sonja Strand. Sonja's captain serves in the Russian army, and Sonja has a relationship with Baron von Lichtenstein, who exploits Sonja who spies on Russia using Jew Isaac as her messenger.
