A young teacher, Mohamed, rejects a student who happens to be the daughter of Awny, the Minister of Interior. As Mohamed starts working as a journalist and joins the Wafd Party, he learns that Awny has documents that condemn its leader.

A virtuous woman's purity is threatened by a callow seducer. The eponymous heroine is a revered "doctor" in the neighborhood of alleys where she lives and dispenses free treatment to all who ask. She is called to nurse a wealthy crank, and his playboy youngest brother falls in love with her. She demands marriage when offered the status of mistress - and much chicanery and humor accompany the pathos of her struggle to gain respect via a common law document.

Ibrahim Farid is an amateur actor who is deeply in love with Sohair the famous stage actress. He knows he cannot marry Sohair due to her higher status in society, until one day he gets an important part in a play where he can declare his love to her. Ibrahim is overwhelmed with happiness for being able express his true feelings to Sohair who later shows those same feelings to him.

The film tells in a documentary form the life story of the Dark Nightingale, Abdulhalim Hafez, and presents some songs for him, and the stories of some people who were in his life and knew him on a personal level.
