The series follows a set of female prisoners, each with her own sorrows. They are guarded by wardens (mostly male and a few female) which sometimes leads to risky situations (like flirting or falling in love for real). The reasons for being behind bars vary: one shot her husband after catching him cheating, another one killed her baby with a pillow and yet another one staged an accident to get rid of her husband who pestered her. Fellow prisoners use each other but in fact, they are all the same: criminals.

She will give birth to something evil to unleash horror and destruction upon human kind. Ugly septuplet brothers reproduced within the framework of mysterious genetic experiments terrorize a young innocent girl who seems to be chosen for the sinister predestination.

Hendrik Grond, a young lawyer, finds his wife in bed with his older colleague Piet Grewestein. The two don't see him and he leaves the house. He decides to get revenge, not immediately but in terms, like the pay back of a loan.

Successful violinist Sacha arrives in Amsterdam, gets mugged, and then meets Caspar and Maarten, two friends who deliberately live outside society.

Nel's spirits are crushed when Trip has a relapse and gets drunk again. Nathalie offers Joy and Agnes money to cook for her and Agnes accepts. Julia spends the night before her wedding at her parents house.

Snoes is out and about for the weekend and immediately gets back into her old groove. Wimpie introduces his boyfriend Ron to his parents. Guusje can't keep her hands off warden Jan Brouwer, leading Troost to reprimand him. But Baby Miller is quick to remind Troosts of his own loose hands.

A fire breaks out at night and during the evacuation, Joy goes back to safe Jantje. Teun has gotten permission for Goedele to meet her in the visitors sleeping quarters. Troost introduces a new warden: Rietje Verdonk.

Snoes has received devastating news. Baby has been found by her older brother. Köksal invites Regina for dinner. Tonny has traded her farmer for a cop. Jantje writes a letter to the Queen asking to be pardoned.

Former inmates Josje and Eefje attend the wedding reception of Wiebe and Tonny. Maurits has already married Carla, who is pregnant. Director Zandbergen has been replaced by Akkie Dorrestijn, who brought along a new negative minded warden, Nel Wittebol. Recently transferred inmate Cor Vis has horrific visions involving Jacqueline. Teun falls at first sight for Snoes when she first arrives. Snoes immediately starts making promises to another recent addition, the heavily addicted Maria. Yet another new inmate, Gillian Bloch impresses the male wardens.

Tonny confronts both Wiebe and Regina about their affair. The wardens catch Maria receiving drug money from her attorney. Julia reconciles with her mother. The Wittebol family is completely falling apart.

Troost is convinced he will take Wiebe's place as head warden. His wife wants him to get another job altogether. Akkie grants the position to Nel. Jacqueline says goodbye to her best friends from the women's wing. Ida tells her that Dr. De Groot is on his way to see her. Smorrie finds a new admirer in Ruud the bus driver.

Cor Vis is set free after new evidence finds her innocent of all charges, but has nowhere to stay. Jacqueline is planning her first leave with Ida. Alfred Willems joins the staff as a guard. Wimpie Wittebol leave home.

Jantje Kruimel wakes up stoned and leads the other women in a polonaise at the workplace. At the same time, Jacqueline has a coughing fit. Tonny suspects Wiebe's affair with Regina. Kees Witteboel takes Millie out to dinner.

José is not allowed to attend her brother's funeral. Julia tells Paul Jaspers about her love for David. Jacqueline prepares her last will and testament. Smorrie starts her new job at Café "De Bajes".

Tonny has a miscarriage. After being thrown out by Jim, Teun finds a place to stay with Bep. Troost rejects Gillian's advances. Wimpie Wittebol moves in with Barry. Jantje buys drugs from Snoes to try it out once.

Teun advises Jacqueline to patch it up with Ida. Jantje goes on leave and stays with Ferdinand and Flip. Nel and Wimpie meet in cafe "De Bajes". José Donkers' brothers break out of the adjoining jail and one of them is killed.

Smorrie returned to jail on the first night of her weekend's leave. Julia has her first session with psychiatrist Paul Jaspers. A film crew shoots a documentary about Cor Vis. Jantje is disappointed when Ferdinand visits instead of Flip.

Jacqueline passes in the arms of Frits de Groot. The women decide to make a flower arrangement for her grave. José Donkers has been caught and is Director Dorrestijn is forced to put her back in the women's wing.

After fainting in the shower, Jacqueline decides she wants to talk to Ida Buns after all. Gillian Bloch puts the moves on Maurits Troost. Dr. Jaspers asks director Dorrestijn out to dinner. Tonny goes on pregnancy leave.

A visitor has attempted to kill Jacqueline. Maria can't get through the night without stimulants. Her lawyer agrees to bring her something harder. Strict Nel Wittebol is criticized by the prisoners and the other wardens alike.
