As members of the next generation of Alaskans trade city life for off-the-grid living, they must take advantage of nature's abundance or suffer the consequences. Army veteran Alex Javor returns to the only place he's called home. Chris and Jessi Morse fish for their future survival. Michael Manzo finds dinner in his surroundings, and the Rolland family hunts for ptarmigan in hard conditions.

In Bear Creek, surviving is Alex Javor's only goal as starvation and dehydration start to set in and Chris and Jessi Morse fly high to escape city living by any means necessary.

As the harsh winter approaches, Michael Manzo takes his team of dogs for their first camping trip of the season to prepare for hunting. Chris and Jessi Morse must harvest water and will succeed by any means necessary. In Eureka, Brent Sass must finish several critical chores around the homestead while Alex Javor builds an emergency bridge, a lifeline for the Army vet.

Chris and Jessi Morse fight subzero temperatures to save their cabin and themselves, while the Rowland family builds a wood-burning oven to conserve a vital lifeline. Michael Manzo builds a new home with backbreaking work and bush ingenuity, and Alex Javor risks hypothermia in order to restore a natural spring.

In winter, the conditions are extreme. This leads to a hunt for beaver, alternate strategies for training dogs, new tools for getting water, and some much needed brush maintenance to prevent an accidental bush fire.

For some it is the will to survive and the means to be rescued while starving. For others, a new shelter, for longer trips and easier trapping, and for a family, a little bit of luxury in the wild, for those long, dark, cold nights

The fight for survival continues, with access roads being maintained, protection of food supplies, gathering of supplies, and even the manufacture of crockery and utensils

When times are hard, alternate food sources must be used, and trapping is one of them, providing not only sustenance, but fur for clothing and shoes. Alternate supply options are also required, from a simple sled to and ice runway.

While Michael Manzo, Chris Morse, Kaleb Rowland and Johnny Rolfe work to extend their range of wood and food supplies further from home, Jessi Morse makes her first attempt at tanning a massive beaver skin.

The Rowlands explore new hunting grounds when game around their property gets low. Alex and Sipsey head off to new fishing grounds, and Michael takes his team out across sometimes dangerous terrain.

Chris and Jessi head back to the woodlot where Chris took a serious injury earlier in the year. Michael continues work on his fish camp, while Brittany and the children build kick sleds, and Alex tries to catch some fish in the river.

Sometimes the resources close to home can become depleted, and then it is time for all to venture further afield to new areas, that have the potential to offer a better lifestyle.

With temperatures dropping to all time lows, battling the elements, in order to secure basic supply necessities such as food and water, is getting even more difficult, and some innovative solutions are put in place.
