- The story opens up with comedy business between Joe and Montey -their awakening - and their attempt to get breakfast, much against the landlady's wishes, The housekeeper and landlady discovers Joe and Monte and during the lecture that follows, Monte manages to leave the room, and takes refuge in the assistant's room. The assistant of the house detective, a vampire, starts to make love to him, and Monte "falls" for her, and when he is leaving he encounters the detective, a jealous fellow. Monte jumps to a hiding place, and is discovered in the act of signaling to the assistant. There is a rush about the room and Monte makes his exit, Joe is discovered by the landlady with her daughter, and brought back to the room while the landlady proceeds to take refuge in the assistant's room just as Monte had done. He finds the assistant alone, and she proceeds to try the "vamp" business on him. Again the detective discovers a man in her room, and in the mixup that follows, Monte also manages to come in, as Joe and his pursuer exit through the other door. Caught entering by the detective, he hides in a closet, dons an old wrapper and dusting hat. Concealing his face from the detective, he signals the assistant and exits from room, Entering his room, he is mistaken by Joe for the landlady. Comedy business between the two, with the result of discovery, a chase, and their escape by the cellar window, Two thieves enter the house, steal the silverware, etc., from the different rooms, and make their escape via the cellar window. Meanwhile Joe and Monte, who have outwitted the police, have brought back a sack of vegetables-pick up the wrong bag, the thieves having thrown their bag out first, and right next to Montey's, and climb with it to their room. On the way the landlady discovers them, and demands to know what they have. The detective and assistant, having discovered the robbery, join her, and the bag's contents are thrown out on the floor. Consternation and surprise of Joe and Monte, satisfaction of the landlady and detective, latter making them his prisoners, and the disgust of the two thieves on discovering the vegetables.
