According to Variety, Smart Woman (1931) was the first picture to play at RKO's Roxy Theatre in New York.
During filming, Mary Astor was 25 years old, and Robert Ames (who played her husband) was 42.
Re-unites three of the stars (Astor, Ames, Horton) of Holiday (1930).
The letters sent to Don by Nancy from Paris are addressed to "Browvale Drive, Little Neck Hills, Long Island, New York". This is a real street now known as Browvale Lane in Little Neck, Queens, NY.
The working titles of Smart Woman (1931) were "Nancy's Private Affair" and "Nancy's Affair."
