This short uses virtually the entire original soundtrack of the 1934 black and white short of the same name. The only change, other than the colorization and use of the updated character designs, is the final line. In the original short, Donald says, "Aw, nuts!" This was changed to his more popular catchphrase, "Aw, phooey!"

"Orphan's Benefit" from 1941 is the third to last Mickey Mouse Cartoon where Mickey wears his usual iconic red shorts until their long absence. It is also the second of three Mickey Mouse Cartoons from 1941, where Mickey wears his shorts. The other two are the prior "The Little Whirlwind (1941)", in which he wears them only in the beginning, and the later "Lend a Paw (1941)", where Mickey wears them all throughout the Cartoon.

"Orphan's Benefit" from 1941 is a sequence by sequence color remake, the character models were updated to match the characters' designs as of 1941.

In October 1973, the story of "Orphan's Benefit" from 1941 was adapted into a 13 page comic book story in the Italian publication "Cartonatoni Disney" #14. The story was called "Recita di Beneficenza", or "Benefit Recital". The same year an English version was published in the American comic book "Walt Disney Magic Moments" #1, called "The Orphan's Benefit".

The soundtrack and voice clips for "Orphan's Benefit" from 1941 were taken straight from the Original "Orphan's Benefit (1934)" from 1934. One minor difference at the end is where Donald says "Aw, phooey!" instead of "Aw, nuts!". It had become a common catchphrase for Donald by that time.
