A famous Italian comedy, Totò, Peppino e i Fuorilegge is a perfect example of droll but unexceptional script elevated by great actors.

Deadbeat Antonio (Totò) is married to wealthy, greedy, obnoxious Teresa (Titina De Filippo); with the help of his friend Peppino (Peppino De Filippo), he pretends to be kidnapped to get a rich ransom. Their stupid, half-baked plan goes horribly wrong when Teresa realizes the truth and then Antonio is actually captured by real bandits.

Totò as his trademark loud-mouthed, resourceful idiot is ably supported by Peppino as the miserable straight man and Titina as the odious wife. Not on par with the greatest Italian comedies (I Soliti Ignoti, Divorzio all'Italiana, Sedotta e Abbandonata...), because those have a bittersweet undertone and a depth completely lacking from this one. Still, well-acted and pretty funny in its own right.

    7/10
