Someone might have gotten the idea for O.K. Crackerby after seeing The Unsinkable Molly Brown on Broadway. The show certainly sank in a way that the show never did.

Both concerned with some brand new millionaires looking for some high society old money acceptance. Burl Ives starred in the title role, he's oil rich from Oklahoma, I mean H.L. Hunt type rich. When we first meet him he buys a hotel that won't give him the penthouse suite for himself and his 3 kids, Brooke Adams, Brian Corcoran, and Joel Davison.

Still widower Ives knows he and his kid lack a certain polish that comes with sophistication. It might be too late for him, but he can do something about that for the young ones.

They need a tutor and he's got one in mind, Hal Buckley of society, but the money is gone and Buckley has a girl friend in Laraine Stephens who is high maintenance.

On such things great business arrangements are made and for the short 17 episode run of O.K. Crackerby Buckley tried to put some couth into the kids and some into Ives himself.

The show never did find an audience I think it depended too much on Ives. The kids didn't seem to stand out in any way so the star got no help.

In the end it was a mediocre property that sank without a trace.
