Members of Movimento Popular de Libertação de Angola (MPLA) and of the Congolese political groups who helped them, took part in the film as actors and extras.
The director of the film, Sarah Maldoror, was an assistant director to Gillo Pontecorvo in The Battle of Algiers (1966).
