Both RK and Hema are on top with their figures, looks , skills , intensity . No wonder they made many hit movies together . Hema looks cute as a button and shows off emotions subtly . RK is super as a play boyish innocent spoilt son oblivious to the outside world , then as a confused lover of He,a , then as a scared obedient younger brother to Prem chopra and then finally repenting for his mistakes . Bindu , Aruna Irani and Hema are equal in looks and beauty . Aruna Irani's sizzling slithery dance needs special mention. Many songs remain with us for a long time . Remake of Telugu Prem NAagar , RK is no match for NAgeshwar Rao but tries his hard to fit in . Its easy to imagine him with his complexiion and sweet face in this role.of debauchery . Hema wears nice chiffon sarees and looks like an angel in each scene. Kumud Chugani and Meena Talp[ade too leave their impact in their small roles. Over all , a fine movie with vibrant colours , emotions and storyline .

Prem Nagar is the remake of the tamil hit "Vasantha Maaligai" featuring Sivaji Ganesan as hero. It is directed by K.S Prakasa Rao, noted film maker.

Rajesh plays a rich guy who constantly drinks due to a personal tragedy, who gets reformed by hemamalini, who plays a middle class woman.

The film has a thin story line but the screenplay is taut which keeps the viewer interested. The chemistry between kaka & hema is next only to kaka & mumtaz & it shows. The love scenes are handled with finesse.

The sets are lavish & direction is neat. It does not get too melodramatic & has a pleasant end, when we think it would be a tragedy.

The songs by S.D Burman are however, average. Only the song "Yeh laal rang" is passable.

Kaka looks handsome & dashing & has performed his role with grace & style. Hema plays a perfect foil. Good support is provided by asrani, prem chopra & bindhu.

A film which went down well with the viewers & surely one of the favourite films of kaka fans.

The IMDB rating for this movie is horribly low. It should be at least a 7.5, ideally a 7.7. Prem Nagar is a masterpiece! Technically Aradhana, Anand, Haathi Mere Saathi, and Amar Prem are Kakaji's most iconic films during his landmark reign as Bollywood's first "superstar," and "Box Office King" from 1969-1975, but somehow, Prem Nagar sticks out more.

The story is simple. Karan, a rich, but self destructive playboy meets and saves the life of Lata, a poor, strong-willed, morally grounded woman. He offers her a job as his secretary after she leaves her dangerous job as she is the sole bread winner for her large family. Karan and Lata both have suffered tremendously due to their families and social positions. For instance, they both have TOXIC siblings who are willing to destroy them by any means necessary. Karan is big-time alcoholic and sex addict. Lata is too self-righteous and morally rigid, often unwilling to compromise due to her ego. Nonetheless, Karan and Lata are soulmates who are destined to spend their lives together in their Prem Nagar ("city of love").

The story, script, and direction are strong and cohesive. Prem Nagar is an older film (nearly 50 years old) but its core messages are still relevant in the 21st century. Don't let your ego destroy your happiness and future. Love truly does conquer all. Prem Nagar is quite melodramatic as well, but it's also satisfying, just like a Douglas Sirk movie. Kaka's performance is mesmerizing and memorable. Yes he's over the top, but watch the movie, currently on Prime to understand why. He "goes to town" playing Karan. He is truly captivating! Honestly, Hema performs better in other movies like Seeta aur Geeta, Naya Zamana, and Sholay, but she's still effective. Her chemistry with Kaka is strong too. But nonetheless, Prem Nagar is another "Rajesh Khanna focused"production. As if there is any other way! I recently became a Kaka fan after nearly 20 years of stupidly mocking his acting style and range. He is a legend and one of the greatest actors in Hindi cinema. Legends don't die. Ever.

Prem Nagar is a great film to watch for newcomers to Bollywood who prefer to watch classic films and a must see for die-hard Kaka and Hema fans. The film did great business when came out in 1974, but some reason it's not often included as canon when ranking Kaka's strongest film performances when it should be. Prem Nagar is my FAVORITE Kaka film ever and at the end of the movie, my heart swells with happiness, joy, and RELIEF every single time!
