The series was set in a working-class neighborhood of Haga, Gothenburg.
Haga, the main setting of the series, experienced severe popular decline during the 20th century. In c. 1906, it had about 15,000 residents. In 2006, it had 4,093 residents.
The main setting of the series is Haga, which was at the time a working class suburb with a rather bad reputation. In the 1980s, it experienced gentrification and renovation. It has since become a popular tourist destination, due to its picturesque wooden houses, and 19th century architecture.
Haga, the series' main setting, is located in Gotaland, the southernmost region of Sweden. Before the formation of unified Sweden, Gotaland consisted of petty kingdoms. Its inhabitants were called "Gautar" in Old Norse. Historians identify them with the Geats, a North Germanic tribe depicted in the epic "Beowulf".
