Well, the film is some kind of slow and is categorized as melodrama. It drew my interest though since it offers a rare down-to-earth view of life of everyday Germans in 1935.

Bright female teenager Sanne moves to Frankfurt relatives because her father had died. Aunt Adelheid does not like her and soon the aunt tries to use her power as local "blockwart" to cause Sanne problems. But Sanne leaves the aunt and lives at the house of the aunt's brother who is a writer banned from his profession. Together with some friends she tries maneuvering the odds of Nazi bosh.

The setting does not lead to the worst outcomes possible but focuses more on exhibiting the often obscure personalities of German society. At times the scenes remind of a theater play.

A short scene features beloved German actress Brigitte Mira as an informer ("denunziant").
