Roar (1981), another movie featuring lions, also premiered in 1981. Savage Harvest (1981) was actually released about six months prior to Roar (1981). Moreover, the movie The White Lions (1981) was also a 1981 release.
Michelle Phillips replaced Melinda Dillon in the lead female role of Maggie. This was announced in the 9th July 1980 issue of show-business trade-paper 'The Hollywood Reporter'. As principal photography reportedly commenced on 22nd June 1980, the replacement alleged occurred during about the first two weeks of the movie shoot after production filming had begun.
The movie was originally announced in February 1980 as going to film in Kenya and Mexico but by June 1980 one of the filming locations had changed resulting in the picture instead filming in Kenya and Brazil.
Final theatrical feature film produced by Ralph Helfer.
Debut theatrical feature film in an acting role of Tana Helfer who is the daughter of Ralph Helfer. The movie remains her only ever screen credit as an actress.
