- Julia, a medical student, infiltrates a prison to find the witness to what she believes was her sister's killing. In the midst of violent inmates and corrupt officials, her inquiry risks to end suddenly - by her own death.
- Piero and Louise Rogers are having sex.
Meanwhile, two henchmen are paying a visit to Sarah Winters (Enrica Saltutti). One punches her in the face, she sobs and says that she has already told them the truth, and they leave - after one of them places a sachet with drugs in a trinket on the cupboard. Her face is wounded and bleeding, but her first care is to make a phone call - to Piero. [scene cut in the English version]
The couple is disturbed by a phone call. Piero, without much ado, hurries Louise out of bed. The couple are on their way to help Louise [as the opening credits roll on] and a couple of detectives arrive at Sarah's home, and arrest her for possession. Meanwhile, Piero's car is ambushed and crushed by a road digger operated by the two henchmen, before the couple have time to jump out of the vehicle.
Louisa's sister, Julia (Linda Jones), refuses to believe that her sister's death was an accident, and tries to convince her lawyer that it was a commanded murder by her jealous lover, a mobster named Frank Cuomo, because he discovered she had a young lover. Both the lawyer and the police inspector Paul tell her that with no proof and no witnesses there is nothing they can do.
The woman who knows who ordered the double murder, Sarah, is now in prison, in a solitary cell. Warden Landers (Rita Silva) doesn't show any pity for the new prisoner - but Amanda, a guard with a long tress of hair, does as soon as the Warden leaves the cell.
Erica Thompson (Ajita Wilson), a tall black girl eager for sex, bribes an old female guard, Laura, to have a sex encounter with a male young guard named Robins (Alessandro Freyberger).
Mae West (Leda Simonetti), a blonde inmate with short hair, offers herself to the Warden, and promises to become an informer.
During the night, the guard Amanda calls Julia (while the Warden is relaxing after her lesbian sex session) to tip her that someone who knows the truth about her sister's death, Sarah Winters, is in prison. More details, only if she pays ten million lire [equivalent then to $US 6,250; US$ 10,000 in the English version dialogue]. However, the Warden overheard the phone call, and when Amanda leaves the office and pretends that she had just called on her sick mother, the Warden pushes her off the balcony to her death.
Erica is in her cell, solving a jealousy problem with her curly redhead cellmate, who is complaining that she loves her, and Erica is having a male lover outside. Soon, Erica stops the argument with a deep kiss, and more.
The Warden is in the process of interrogating a blonde prisoner, Eleanor - the harsh way. Actually the girl is refusing to admit it was she who pushed the guard off the balcony, and she keeps refusing - until she has a red hot poker applied to her chest.
Prison Governor Trudeau (Cesare Di Vito) receives the Warden, just as he was reading an adult magazine. She tells him that Sarah Winters is still drugged and in isolation, and that Eleanor has just confessed to having killed the guard.
Police Inspector Paul pays a visit to Sarah Winters, in the company of the Prison Doctor, but she is in a coma, and can't answer anything.
Julia is given the bad news - but her mind is somehow gone to a young man on horseback - Piero.
Meanwhile, at the island prison, life goes on as usual, and two girls are in the shower. A guard in military uniform, is chatting with a black hair murderess, who is in for killing a would-be rapist, and she was sentenced to 30 years instead of a more lenient sentence.
A fisherman's boat arrives with four new prisoners, that are introduced to the Governor. He shows interest for one tall, black haired girl, who says her name is Serena Evans [seen before in dialogue with a guard, in an editing error], and knows how to cook; she is immediately engaged by him to cook dinner for him and his wife. He introduces him to Mrs. Thompson, a deaf and blind woman, who can speak and welcomes the girl.
Another newcomer is Julia - posing as a prisoner - and she's sent to Erica's cell.
Meanwhile, the Governor is stripping and fondling the new cook in her room, next to the living room where his wife can't hear or see a thing. The girl puts up some resistance, but not enough. "I feel like a little muff diving", the Governor declares as he jumps the poor girl.
Erica is trying to make Julia tell her secret: she sees that her hands are not those of a working girl (in both senses of the word) and approaches her with kisses and fondling, to which Julia responds in kind, but not offering answers. Later, they share the shower with other girls.
Laura, the old guard, informs Julia that the girl she wanted to meet with has not returned to her cell...
A brunette snitch is ganged up by three girls, under Erica's orders. Erica tries again to know who Julia is - as she is certain the bank robber she pretends to be is a lie. The Warden interrupts their conversation in the cell, and accuses Erica for the attack on the brunette. Even without a confession, Erica is taken to the dungeon, and beaten up by two female guards. Then her wrists are tied with rope to a wooden bar on the ceiling, and the Warden opens Erica's shirt, trying to force a confession by mauling her breasts. The girl's resistance brings the hot iron treatment to Erica's chest.
"I'm not concerned about the methods you use," says the Governor when told by the Warden, "but about the results."
The Warden goes from his office to the isolation cell, to administer herself one more sedative injection to Sarah, who is clear minded already to say that she knows the Warden is in collusion with Frank Cuomo.
In the blonde snitch cell, one of the new girls is starting a revolt movement. Predictably, shortly afterwards, the snitch is naming her companion, Erica Council, and telling her intentions to the Warden. When the girl strips, she seems to feel cold, but soon she is heated up by the Warden's lovemaking.
Julia keeps searching for someone who knows of Sarah Winters' whereabouts, now with the kitchen attendants. Soon, a young, long haired brunette cuts her lower leg, and Julia quickly applies a makeshift tourniquet to the leg, and helps take the girl to the infirmary, where she tells the nurse that she has a 3 year education in medical school, and takes over the treatment.
The Doctor sends for Julia, and invites her to be his assistant, which she accepts - and asks for a complete list of the prisoners, just to check on each one's vaccination against diseases, of course.
The Warden has another intimate conversation with Mae West, the blonde lover.
The Tortured Girl we now know is Erica Council, is trying to convince Erica Thompson that she must lead the revolt, but she has her doubts about the success of it.
The Governor has another intimate conversation with Serena Evans - after a blurry image of him leaving his wife leads us to suspect that Mrs. Trudeau may not be totally blind.
Julia is not blind, and is using her post in the infirmary to watch the Warden's visit to the isolation cell. She recalls (in a flashback) how she reprehended her sister Louise for the life she was living. Julia starts crying, just as the Doctor came in, and tells her he loves her. She reciprocates, and they kiss, as he further explores the black see-through lingerie Julia has under the white gown.
Later, when they were back to work, they are interrupted by a curly redhead who claims to have a swelling in her stomach. As soon as Julia leaves, he inspects her, and she promptly confesses that she only wants a few days in the infirmary, away from the stinking cell. She says she'll be very cooperative, and since she is young and cute, the Doctor sends her to the infirmary to keep her "under observation".
Erica Council is exposing the revolt next steps, and her cellmates, namely the Blonde Snitch, listen attentively.
The redhead in the black sweater is surprised by Julia when she was about to access the medicine cabinet. Julia asks her to use her master key to open the grid to the solitary cell, and they go there both, to see the comatose Sarah for the first time.
The Warden is again on the bed with Mae West, who has nothing new to tell her - and so she says.
Julia administers a counter sedative to Sarah, and tries to communicate with her in vain. Then she goes to her room, where she recalls (in flashback) the young male horse rider, and the owner of the stable - Frank Cuomo, an aging rich man - warning her that her sister Louise could not keep behaving herself as boldly as she had done recently. Louise arrives in time to listen his final words, and she says she will marry him soon. Later, Julia surprises Louise at home having sex with Piero, and the man invited her for a threesome. She slaps him, and delivers Frank Cuomo's warning that Louise must stop seeing Piero, or else.
Serena Rigway listens to a conversation between the Warden and the Governor, and looks for Julia to inform her about a plan involving weapons.
The young guard Robins pays good money to Erica Thompson for the pleasure of having sex with the tall black girl - again. After sex, Erica takes his pistol, menaces him with it, and shoots him dead.
Meanwhile, Erica Council is asking Mae West if the Warden asks many questions when they are together, and Mae says, "No."
Next time Julia attempts to talk with Sarah, the Warden surprises her, and sends her to the dungeon. Strapped to a wooden bed, Julia suffers the hot iron punishment, too. She faints with the pain.
At the Governor's quarters, he is having his way again with the Cook, when Mrs. Trudeau walks in and stabs him repeatedly in the back with a knife - seeing and speaking perfectly. The girl offers to take the murder blame as her own doing, because she can't be serving more than the 30 years sentence she already has.
Erica Thompson is in the shower with two other girls, when an old servant brings the news that the Governor is dead.
The Warden is also informed of the Governor's death - which postpones her death menace on Julia, who stays bound to her wooden bed. She goes to the Governor's office, and addresses the guards and prisoners via the prison's loudspeakers - she is now the only authority inside the prison...
Meanwhile, Julia managed to free her hands, just when Laura, the old servant, came to give her the news, too. Julia sends a message from behind bars via Laura, to Erica Thompson - that Mae West had told everything to Landers. Then, Julia faints again, exhausted after the truncheon beating she had taken from the Warden.
Warden Landers gives some instructions to Mae West, and the girl seems pleased to know that Landers is now interim governor. On her way out, Mae West is stabbed to death by the girls in the yard, as they had just been told Julia's message by Laura.
By cunning and a surprise karate chop to the neck, Erica Thompson disposes of the only male guard guarding the guns store room. She leads a handful of girls into the Governor's office, takes the phone from Landers, and ells the Minister of Internal Affairs that was on the phone, "The prison is now ours, and we have things to discuss. [...] We have twenty hostages, men and women, and we'll kill one each two hours if you don't meet our conditions."
Shots are exchanged between the male guards and the women armed with the five shotguns taken from the armory.
After another counter injection by the Doctor, Sarah remains enough conscience to spell out that Piero had been crushed to death on Frank Cuomo's orders.
As the black Erica spells out her demands, Julia Rogers comes into the office and accuses Landers of preventing Sarah to tell the police who is the murderer of Piero and her sister, Louise. Not noticing that the loudspeakers system is on, Landers grabs the shotgun from the desk where the black leader had put it to talk on the phone, and tries to take over the command of the situation. The Doctor comes in, and shows no fear of Landers' shotgun. "You can't shoot us all. I'm turning you in."
Landers was about to shoot the Doctor, when Erica Thompson throws a knife into the Warden's chest. She falls, dying, by in a reflex move, she pulls the trigger and the shot goes into the tall black leader's belly. Both die - slowly.
For Julia and the Doctor, it seems there'll be a future.
