[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Rick and Morty” Season 3, Episode 4, “Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender.”]
At its best, “Rick and Morty” is a show that’s been able to take the basic, ordinary parts of human life and spin them into grand, misshapen sci-fi horrors. Dogs taking over the world, parasites taking over happy memories, and a school dance becoming the platform for an army of Cronenbergs all came from a simple premise warped so fully that the result was twisted, unrecognizable bliss.
“Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender” is an episode as deceptive as its title. What starts as a means for a “Guardians of the Galaxy”-style adventure against a looming foe gets the “Rick and Morty” treatment by putting that formula in reverse. It’s no surprise that this show would take a premise with unlimited possibilities and trap this supersquad in a simplistic “Saw”-bstacle course. Even if some of it feels a little familiar, at least it’s sending things in a different direction.

Many in Hollywood, as well as many in this country, are still struggling with the fact that Donald Trump won the election. It seems that this result is even affecting fictional characters, including Elliot from “Mr. Robot.”
The series creator, Sam Esmail, “leaked” a page from the Season 3 script in where Elliot, portrayed by Emmy Award winner Rami Malek, is back in therapy with Krista, and is very disappointed with society.
“I asked you this question before but you never responded. I’d like it if you answered this time,” she begins. “What is it about society that disappoints you so much?” Krista asks.
Elliot replies by saying, “Oh, that’s easy. Donald Trump was just elected President of the United States.”

King Cobra is an erotic, venomous thriller loaded with cheesy porn-actor charm and equally perverse darkness. Only a true story could be this twisted, and only in the world of sleaziness and fame could egos rationalize murder as a way to beat the competition. In fact, writer/director Justin Kelly creates more believable motivations for Joe Kerekes and Harlow Cuadra than their real accounts detail. Kelly’s sinful slice of “twink” exploitation somehow creates a more believable scenario than reality by under-exaggerating where cinema typically exploits. The Viper cars, trademarked names, predatory advances – welcome to the flashy, ferocious underworld of sex, lies and videotapes.
Garrett Clayton stars as Sean Paul Lockhart Aka Brent Corrigan, a young phenom pornstar who becomes an overnight sensation thanks to Cobra Video. He lives with “King Cobra” himself – Stephen (Christian Slater) – who writes and directs twink-centric videos from his suburban abode. On the other side...

On Thursday, July 14, the Television Academy will announce the nominees for the 68th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, and we have all the faith in the world they’ll get every single choice just right.
Ok, maybe they won’t, but only because the 19,000-plus voters literally can’t get every choice right. Unless all the categories squeeze out miraculous ties resulting in extra nominees — similar to last year’s Supporting Actress in a Comedy category — there are simply too many outstanding series and performers to fit on the overall ballot.
So our choices below not only represent IndieWire’s highest recommendations in the top-line drama categories, but also some of the shows and performers overlooked thus far in the campaign season. It would be grand to hear their names announced come nomination day, but we just hope they know how much their work has been appreciated this past TV season.

Lily Rabe has joined the ABC alien pilot The Visitors, playing an FBI investigator who focuses on children and realizes a that there’s something sinister about a variety of children who all have the same imaginary friend. Does this mean we’re going to have to give up Rabe’s performances on American Horror Story? I’m not sure if I can accept that.
