Mary Steenburgen credited as playing...
Katie McGovern • Evelyn • Julie Rose
- Julie Rose: Where's my new headshot? Did you print it up yet?
- Rob Sweeney: Oh, shit.
- Julie Rose: Rob.
- Rob Sweeney: I'll do it right after I finish my coffee.
- Julie Rose: I have an audition in 45 minutes.
- Rob Sweeney: [tasting his coffee] What is this?
- Julie Rose: You never should have told me you were going to do it if you weren't gonna do it.
- Rob Sweeney: I'm sorry. I forgot.
- Julie Rose: How could you forget? You've been sitting around watching football all weekend with my brother.
- Julie Rose: I'm sorta in between agents right now.
- Mr. Murray: I see.
- Julie Rose: What happens if the director doesn't like me?
- Mr. Murray: But he's going to like you, I'm sure of it!
- Mr. Murray: [driving slowly through the snowy night] Oh, dear.
- Julie Rose: What's the matter?
- Mr. Murray: I hope Dr. Lewis won't be worried.
- Julie Rose: Who's Dr. Lewis?
- Mr. Murray: The producer. He's arranged for you to stay at his house.
- Julie Rose: He's a doctor?
- Mr. Murray: He doesn't practice anymore. Since his retirement, he's turned his attention to other pursuits.
- Julie Rose: Hi. I'm Katie McGovern. Hi, I'm number 59.
- Mr. Murray: I'll be with you in a -
- [looking up, then seeming startled as he picks up a photo and compares it with her face]
- Mr. Murray: Oh, well, you're...
- Julie Rose: Is something wrong?
- Mr. Murray: Oh, no, no. It's just that, uh... Say something. Tell me something about yourself.
- Julie Rose: I did an under-5 in "All My Children." I have two commercials running. I toured in "Taming of the Shrew."
- Mr. Murray: Yes, yes, yes, yes, I'm - Would you mind turning to your left, just for a moment?
- Julie Rose: [turning] Sure.
- Mr. Murray: Oh. Your hair. Tell me, does it, um, go up?
- Julie Rose: [pulling up her hair] How's that?
- Mr. Murray: [relieved and pleased] Well. That's that.
- Dr. Joseph Lewis: [as Katie looks through headshots] Her name is Julie Rose.
- Julie Rose: [delighted] She could be my sister!
- Dr. Joseph Lewis: That's why you are here.
- Julie Rose: She just walked off the set?
- Dr. Joseph Lewis: Worse yet, I'm afraid. I heard from the director this morning. She had a nervous breakdown. He says she'll never be the same again.
- Julie Rose: Oh, that's awful.
- Dr. Joseph Lewis: Of course it is. But it's you we are counting on now, Miss McGovern. And we must do everything to get you ready.
- Mr. Murray: I brought you some warm milk. I know how hard it is to sleep in a strange place the first night.
- Julie Rose: [taking the glass] Uh-huh.
- Mr. Murray: Miss McGovern? I just wanted to say I think Dr. Lewis likes you.
- Julie Rose: Well, thanks.
- Mr. Murray: He doesn't like everybody, you know.
- Julie Rose: He doesn't?
- Mr. Murray: Oh, good gracious, no. But he likes you. I can tell.
- Julie Rose: Well, I'm sure he likes you too, Mr. Murray.
- Mr. Murray: [anxiously] Do you really think so?
- [seeing a stuffed polar bear looming over her]
- Julie Rose: Oh!
- Dr. Joseph Lewis: Nothing to be alarmed about. He's quite dead, believe me. I killed him myself.
- Julie Rose: What is this?
- Dr. Joseph Lewis: It's your scene for the videotape. You must start learning it tonight.
- Julie Rose: [scanning it, pleased] It's a thriller?
- Julie Rose: Do I look directly into the camera, or...?
- Dr. Joseph Lewis: No, off to the right. Pretend as if the camera isn't there.
- Julie Rose: I want to take a beat after the line "There was blood everywhere."
- Julie Rose: How did you meet Dr. Lewis?
- Mr. Murray: It was a professional relationship.
- Julie Rose: What kind of professional relationship?
- Mr. Murray: I was his patient.
- Julie Rose: What kind of doctor is he?
- Mr. Murray: A psychiatrist.
- [after a long pause while starting to film the role of Julie Rose]
- Julie Rose: I'm sorry - Did you say "Action"?
- Dr. Joseph Lewis: Oh. Action.
- [a woman slots the videotape into the machine at her home]
- Julie Rose: [as Julie Rose] I was all alone out there. Where the hell were you? I mean, all alone. There wasn't another soul in sight. I waited in the parking lot until 1:30. She must have had me followed. Oh, God, I should have known. I don't know how he got into the car. I never even saw him. First thing I know, his hands are around my throat. I tried to breathe. I couldn't breathe. I must have blacked out. He must have thought I was already dead. I came to a couple of hours later. There was blood everywhere. Look what they did to me. Will you look what they did to me?
- Dr. Joseph Lewis: Hello, Evelyn. This is the proof, as promised.
- Julie Rose: You lied to me! Why did you lie to me?
- Dr. Joseph Lewis: We didn't lie to you.
- Julie Rose: [showing him the snapshots she found] You said she had a breakdown. That's a breakdown?
- Julie Rose: Finished playing in the snow?
- Dr. Joseph Lewis: Your sister's a resourceful woman.
- Julie Rose: My sister's a fool, and so are the two of you. I'll find her myself.
- Julie Rose: What are you doing to me?
- Dr. Joseph Lewis: We are not doing anything to you, my dear.
- Julie Rose: All my ID is missing from my wallet. My bank cards, my credit cards.
- Dr. Joseph Lewis: [complacently] Perhaps you forgot them in New York.
