  • Extremely good film- acting was great, storyline close to the real story of queen Emma- I was told many stories of Emma as a small child - she was my fathers Aunt.Scenes in the film were well chosen -I recently made a visit to the same Hotel in Monaco where she shot Paul. The actors were well cast.Family members who also knew stories from Samoa stated Emma was a fun and lovable girl,at times outrageous but focused towards business success. The film caught this side of her.Our film has disappeared we wish to purchase another. This film should be shown in theatres in NZ and Australia. Gary Coopers'Return to Paradise' was filmed again in 2001 and well received. Show Emma again. I.R.Waked-Pontes
  • Barbara Carrera at her absolute best! In her role as Queen Emma, we can see her grow from a beautiful young woman in to a regal old lady. The supporting cast also performed marvelously. The scenes at the waterfalls, in fact all of the filming (That was done in Fiji, on the island of Taveuni)is superb. Geoff Burton's camera work in particular needs to be praised, as it sometimes is very difficult to bring such an epic story to the screen, without letting the scenery play a bigger role that it should. Hal Holbrook excels as Jonas Coe. Great care was taken by Graham Purcell, to have to most accurate and authentic period costumes. Over all, the production designs by Neal Angwin, made for a very lovely and enjoyable Film, that unfortunately was never released in Theater in most countries. Jamie Douglas
  • Hi there,

I am Sherman Powell one of the cast members of the movie. In the movie Barbara Carrera was my sister. I have looked to both ends of the earth for a copy of the movie. Can someone please advice on how I can get a copy of the movie. To this day I haven't seen the movie so you can see my desperation. Please get in touch.

    Thank you Regards Sherman Powell
  • Hi Sherman.

I have a digital copy of this film I can send you.

That's because it's about my family.

Queen Emma is my great grand aunt.

Her sister Phebe Parkinson (played by Rebecca Rigg) is my great grandmother.

Jonas Coe of course was my great great grandfather.

I have just returned from PNG where we buried my parents' ashes next to Phebe and Richard Parkinson in the family cemetery.

Phebe raised my father. Phebe died in a Japanese POW camp in WW2. Dad found her jungle grave af her 60 years and repair dated her remains to be with her husband.

I also visited the grave of the mother of Emma and Phebe - Jonas Coe's first wife Le'utu Johana Coe, who was born into the Samoan royal Malietoa family .. one of the reasons Emma was later nicknamed 'Queen'.

    Cheers
  • I have The TV movie of Emma etc and I just love it. Barbara Carrera as Emma was beautiful in the role and her acting was excellent. As was Hal Holbrook as her father Jonas Coe. The scenes of Samoa were beautifully photographed. The clothes seemed to be in keeping with that particular era.I am not a movie critic but I have enjoyed watching this movie at least once a year since 1988 when it was televised on the Lifetime channel. I could never understand why this film was never at the movie theaters. My copy of this movie is beginning to deteriorate and I have been longing to get it on a DVD for a long time but can never find one.If anyone knows where I can get it on VHS or DVD I wish they would post it here.I am a big Carrera fan and would love to have a better copy of this magnificently portrayed and photographed movie.
