Mimi Rogers would have a recurring role in The X-Files (1993) as Diana Fowley, the former lover of Mulder who in fact works for the dark side. David Duchovny suggested her for the role.
In the DVD commentary, David Duchovny and Michael Tolkin remind Mimi Rogers that Brad Pitt read for the role of Tommy. She even read with him, they said; but she responds that she doesn't remember him. James Le Gros got the role. Rogers persuaded Tolkin to cast him, even though his audition was not very good.
The shots of the horsemen riding on the road were the first scenes shot for the movie. They were shot two days before the rest of the filming began.
Director Michael Tolkin deliberately intended the closing credits to have no music. He felt that it would maintain the impact of the film's closing scene.
