Paul and Jamie Buchman are a recently-married New York City couple. They point out the gentle humor in domesticity and life's everyday situations.
Paul Reiser's production company is called Nuance Productions, after a line in the first film he appeared in, Diner (1982): "You know what word I'm not comfortable with? Nuance. It's not a real word. Like "gesture". Gesture's a real word. With gesture you know where you stand. But nuance? I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong."
Did you have a steak?
Paul: What are you, part wolf? As a matter of fact I did, this morning.
Ira: For breakfast? Paulie, I'm impressed.
Paul: I'm working my way backwards through the day: for dinner, I'm having cornflakes.
As with any long-running show there are many inconsistencies between series. Characters' life histories, their birthdays and ages are reported differently from time to time as the writers invent new stuff for them that wasn't thought of when the series began.
