After the success of Naam, the same team, Rajendra Kumar, Mahesh Bhatt and Salim Khan were to make a film titled Naaraz staring Rakhee Gulzar, Kumar Gaurav, Madhuri Dixit,Naseerudin Shah and Amrish Puri, but this film was not made. Mahesh Bhatt, and Amrish Puri never got the chance to work together after both being in the same industry for decades. Naraaz was shelved. Years later Mahesh Bhatt made another film titled Naaraaz with a different star cast and story.
The film was started as "Kalyug" in 1992. Starring Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Pooja Bhatt, Lisa Ray(Replaced Manisha Koirala) Mink Singh(Replaced Raveena Tandon).. Ajay Devgan dropped out and Atul Agnihotri was signed. Then Lisa Ray was replaced by Sonali Bendre and Mink's role was dropped from the film. Finally Sanjay Dutt exited the film due to his time in jail with Mithun replacing him.
Mahesh Bhatt was down with a virus and hospitalized in the middle east. His assistants filmed a song on Silk Smitha. When Mahesh returned he saw the song and was furious. The song looked stupid and vulgar. He did not like it. The song was eventually deleted by the censor board.
The lyrics of the song "Agar Aasman Tak Mera Haath Jaata" from Meharbaan was also used for the song "Agar Aasman Tak Mera Haath Jaata " in Naaraz. But the song in Naaraz was dropped from the film when they realized that a song with the same lyrics was used earlier in the film Meharbaan.
The song, "Tere Bin Main Kuch Bhi Nahin", was virtually lifted by Anu Malik from the opening title of the 1971 film, Andaz.
