- A middle-aged man is having problems trying to regain his sexual drive. He leaves behind his old life and tries to discover a simpler happiness through painting and meeting new friends.
- Having lost interest in life, sexually frustrated millionaire Peter Allison visits a psychiatrist, who advises him to get away from the depressing atmosphere of his office. He leaves his wife, visits Las Vegas, and wins a huge sum of money which he hides in the trunk of his car.
Returning to Los Angeles, he meets Carlos, who introduces him to the hippie life, dominated by marijuana and drugs. He watches a psychedelic orgy and confesses to Carlos that he does not become sexually aroused. Carlos arranges meetings with a series of voluptuous women, and then sets up a lesbian exhibition, to no avail.
Two hoodlums set a trap for Peter, having convinced a beautiful blonde to call and invite him for a "surprise." When Peter arrives, they rape and murder the woman and torture him in order to learn the hiding place of his money; he kills them and makes his escape.
Joyce, a wealthy young woman, falls in love with Peter and invites him to her home. She becomes frenzied with desire; Carlos rushes over in a stolen police car and satisfies her.
Peter renounces all sexual activity and takes up painting. His psychiatrist advises him to recreate his most enjoyable sexual experience. Carlos searches for a special woman and discovers the Charitable Sex Society. Peter fails again and returns to his art.
Eventually, Peter sells an oil painting to an art expert, who restores his self-confidence. He paints a female nude and becomes so absorbed in his creative effort that he overcomes his impotence and makes love with his model.
