  • Warning: Spoilers
I've always wondered at Buttman's fame and popularity in porn history -what's his secret? It sure isn't storytelling, as evidenced in this ridiculously poor movie from his Evil Angel label back in the VHS era.

Since John Stagliano hogs all the principal credits, let's examine his screenplay (replete with stupid dialogue). Its corny central conceit concerns Maria Rodriguez, played by Valentina, using stage name here of Nikki Pink. She needs money or she and her mom will be evicted. I recognized mom as Dolores Delux (uncredited), a diminutive character actress who pops up in Stagliano movies. She gets to ham it up in one scene in her underwear instructing her daughter in dance moves.

Mom fears her kid will sell her body as a hooker to raise the needed money, and indeed she almost does, but kindly (and typecast) pimp Jack Baker turns Mr. Nice Guy and tells her to forget about that sort of occupation.

Stagliano is a former dancer, and in fact had a career peak with his dance-oriented porn feature "Fashionistas", emphasizes dance throughout "Salsa Break", but it doesn't sound like salsa music to me. A lousy trio led by prolific porn musical scorer John Further is featured a lot on screen, playing for a dance contest what sounds like a steal from Sade's "Smooth Operator" hit, seductive latin-style jazz but hardly salsa music.

Maria goes to a dance club with pal Cherry Hill, and is encouraged to compete in a dance contest for the $500 prize. Don Fernando plays the club owner and emcee, and in the key plot cog arranges with corruptible narc cops to free his employee Dave Bolden, in return for finking on a big drug trafficker. Bolden, aka Giovanni Menendez, is a dancer whose porn career never extended beyond working for Buttman in a handful of features including "Very Dirty Dancing".

Ray Victory co-stars as Andrew Davis (no, not the talented film director by that name), a dancer who works for pimp Jack Baker, and oddly enough wins the $500 contest Maria should have won. He has lots of sex and dance footage, too. In the movie's worst scene, so badly directed by Stagliano as to make it crystal clear he couldn't care less, Narc cops led by Ron Jeremy (in a truly nothing role) are about to arrest Baker when Fernando wrongly accuses him of being the drug kingpin, Maria saves Baker. This scene alone would win a Razzie award for worst director had Buttman been eligible.

Stagliano's following will enjoy his numerous shots of female butts, including a big one belonging to Brandi Wine, but this video is bad beyond belief.
