Flor Silvestre is the only one of the four leading ladies who sings Mexican folk songs in the film. At this point in her career, she was a very popular singer on radio and television and also a notable headliner at local Mexico City theaters. Her name appears on the marquee of the Teatro Esperanza Iris in a shot that was included in the film to represent the exterior of the theater where the four main characters perform.
Beautiful French actress Christiane Martel, who played Lisette, was Miss Universe in 1953. In one particular number, "Chiquita señorita", she is serenaded by The Clover Boys in English.
Of the four leading ladies, Christiane Martel did not sing in any of her musical numbers. She either danced or played a trumpet in her songs. Flor Silvestre and Elvira Quintana both sang three songs each and Mapita Cortés sang two.
The movie was shot in 1958, but did not premiere until mid-1960.
The Clover Boys were the first American-style rock-and-roll act to tour Mexico.
The Clover Boys stayed in Mexico for about a year, playing on the best television shows and in a theatre that was the equivalent of New York City's Radio City Music Hall. This is where film director Benito Alazraki saw them there and wanted them in his new film - "Poker de reinas" ("Poker of Queens"). They weren't paid much for their efforts, but were rewarded with the opportunity to cut an entire LP of English, French and Spanish material for RCA Víctor México.
