  • Super fun, super weird series that is not what it looks like. It sets up with War of the Sexes office intrigue; one of the seven executive secretaries has stolen from the company. When two men are transferred in to quietly investigate, they discover all the secretaries hate men, making them all suspects.

But from the jump, Love Complex is pretty weird, frequently breaking the fourth wall or tossing in surreal elements. Twin Peaks and Ally McBeal are clear influences. Character stories can be pretty strange, with motives ranging from "evil man-hating cult" to "fetish for destroying men."

But if you're expecting tsundere romance and spy vs spy rivalry, you'll probably be surprised. While the first half of the show is light and goofy, the back half goes flying off the rails into super dark psychodrama. And while I'd still call it a black comedy and a lot of it is very funny, it's still going to give you tonal whiplash, and some of the later twists and turns are bound to throw viewers through a loop.

It's a head-scratchingly weird show, but especially considering it was marketed as a romance with two hunky guys and a harem of beautiful women, there's something really subversive about how hard it avoids any actual romance and the truly strange turns it takes. Highly entertaining, and recommended for fans of camp, weirdness, and dark humor.
