- Young Boy: Did you have a nightmare? You ate cheese with dinner. My mommy says cheese gives you nightmares. Do you wanna see my coloring book?
- [hands Carnby the book]
- Young Boy: I think there's a vampire living in my closet, but my mommy says vampires and ghosts aren't real. She says that there's nothing to be afraid of in the dark.
- Edward Carnby: Your mother's wrong, kid. Being afraid of the dark is what keeps most of us alive.
- Young Boy: But people always tell me not to be afraid.
- Edward Carnby: That's because they don't know the truth.
- Edward Carnby: [narrating; voice-over] So, maybe you think I'm an asshole for scaring that little kid for no reason. But I'm just trying to protect him. You see, there's a world around you that you've trained yourself not to see. Call it paranormal, supernatural, occult... whatever. But inside all of us is an uncontrollable fear of the dark. Kids are told it's irrational, but it's not. Fear is what protects you from the things you don't believe in. I learned the truth a long time ago. Just because you can't see something, doesn't mean it can't kill you.

- Edward Carnby: [voice-over] The gate was closed again. But, like the Abkani discovered there's a price to pay for bringing darkness into the light. The Abkani people were wiped off the face of the Earth. And now it looks like it's happening all over again.
- Edward Carnby: 713... they implanted us with those things.
- Cmdr. Richard Burke: [Reading through some files] This isn't happening. It doesn't make any sense. We've been trying to stop something... that they created the whole time. My guys are dying out there for nothing!

- Cmdr. Richard Burke: FOR FUCKING NOTHING! GOD DAMMIT!
- Edward Carnby: Aline come on, come on! This way! This way! Come on! Come on! COME ON! This way! Better get out of here. Come on!
- Edward Carnby: I was tracking poachers across their lines in the Amazon when I hooked up with some ex-Chilean military trafficking artifacts on the black market.
